47 Jalan Anggerek

47 Jalan Anggerek

The best picture of this job is the one where you can see the job half-done: a clean wet edge running across the gable, fresh pale grey-blue on one side of it and the tired old sage green still sitting on the other. That line is the whole argument for repainting a house — the difference is not subtle once you put the two next to each other.

Getting up there is the part most people underestimate. A gable end at two to three storeys, tight against the neighbouring house, leaves nowhere sensible to stand — so the wall was rolled from ropes, working off a roof anchor with the pail clipped at the hip and a long extension pole to keep the coat even. The patched and primed areas were laid in first and rolled out afterwards, so the topcoat lands on a surface that has already been made good. Down at ground level the work carried on around the house: the greige boundary and carport walls, the white soffits, and the sage-toned ceiling along the side yard.
